Zimbabwe’s lion guards are brave community members selected and trained to prevent attacks on humans and cattle by big cats who stray from the unfenced Hwange park, which sprawls over 14,500 square kilometres (5,625 sq. miles) in western Zimbabwe.

The hunt for British Big Cats attracts far more newspaper column-inches than any other cryptozoological subject.
