Big cat reportedly entered workshop. Officials lay trap hoping it searches for food.
The reported sighting of a leopard inside a building of the IIT-Bombay campus led to police and forest officials cordoning off a road and laying a trap in the area on Wednesday.
An IIT-B staffer saw the leopard in a workshop of the mechanical engineering department. It was the third time in as many months that the big cat had ventured into an area inhabited by humans. The previous two incidents had been at Warlipada, Thane, and Hiranandani Complex, Powai.
The leopard continued to remain elusive till late on Wednesday night. The big cat is believed to have entered the workshop through an open exhaust vent. Many working in the mechanical engineering department said the animal had been spotted for two to three days in the leafy fringes of the campus, but only on Monday did it enter a building.
